Have you been procrastinating on getting orthodontic treatment because you worry about how braces will look on you? If so, you don’t have to wait any longer.

Invisalign allows adults and teens to straighten their teeth and get that perfect smile without anyone knowing! Interested in finding an Invisalign dentist near you? If you’re in the Southfield, Oak Park, Lathrup Village, Berkley or surrounding area you can set up an appointment with one of our three locations to learn more about how Invisalign can help you achieve the smile you've always wanted.

The prefix ortho originates from the Greek word “orthos” meaning straight or erect. The word “Orthodontics” refers to straightening the teeth using different methods, including the innovative Invisalign clear aligners brought to you by Align Technology.

When you meet with Fortson’s Invisalign dentists they will make you feel very comfortable with the process as they explain how your Invisalign aligners are custom made just for you! They sit snugly over your teeth and are virtually invisible. Each aligner works to shift your teeth slightly, moving them vertically, horizontally, or rotating them when needed. Your invisible braces are designed to use the right amount of force in the right place at the right time, delivering straight teeth and a perfect smile!

As you change to your next set of aligners, your teeth will gradually move into position following your custom treatment plan. Invisalign aligners are made of the proprietary, multilayer SmartTrack® material designed to shift your teeth into place gently.

Braces and Invisalign work to straighten your teeth while improving your oral health and your smile. Braces consist of metal brackets secured to your teeth and attached by wires and tiny rubber bands. Nowadays, you can get brackets in different colors.

The biggest difference between Invisalign and braces, on the other hand, is that Invisalign is virtually invisible. Aligner trays are worn over teeth to shift them gently. Dr. Fortson and his team will use X-rays, pictures, and impressions to create a precise 3-D image of your teeth and to configure your aligner trays accordingly.

Your Invisalign aligners are designed to transform your life without impacting it. They are removable, enabling you to eat whatever you like, and enjoy any of your favorite activities. Invisalign aligner trays make cleaning simpler than other devices which may take up to 30 minutes for adequately flossing and brushing.

If you have any special occasions coming up, all you need to do is take out your aligners, then pop them back in when done. Even if you decide to keep them on, nobody will notice, because they are virtually invisible.

Invisalign aligners have been shown to reduce the time it takes to get the smile you’ve always wanted. They are effective in treating complex cases using proprietary SmartForce and SmarTrack material, which enable our orthodontist to move your teeth more precisely.

Invisalign Teen comes with compliance indicators that fade from blue to clear to gauge wear time, ensuring sufficient usage, while allowing teens to enjoy sports, foods, and the different activities they enjoy.

Invisalign has proven to be useful for a broad range of mild to complex teeth-straightening cases including the following.

Gapped Teeth: Gaps may be the result of the continued growth of the jawbone or teeth shifting. Gaps may lead to gum problems, periodontal pockets, and an increased risk of periodontal disease.

Overbite and Underbite: Overbites happen when the upper teeth bite over the lower teeth. They can result from poor oral habits, genetics, or overdevelopment of the bone supporting the teeth. Overbites may lead to gum problems or irritation and wear on your lower teeth. Underbites occur when the lower teeth protrude past the front teeth and commonly result from upper jaw undergrowth, lower jaw overgrowth, or missing upper teeth. Underbites may prevent the regular function teeth, leading to tooth wear. Overbites and underbites can lead to painful jaw problems.

Crossbite: Crossbite is when the upper and lower jaws are both misaligned, causing one or more of the upper teeth to bite on the inside of the lower teeth. That can cause wear of the teeth, gum disease, along with the loss of bone.

Open Bite: With open bites, some teeth are not able to make physical contact with opposing teeth. An abnormal jaw structure or excessive thumb sucking can be the cause. Open bites can cause painful chewing and speech impairment and may result in temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ).

Crowded Teeth: Teeth crowding occurs when there is no room in the jaw for all the teeth to fit normally. If left uncorrected, overcrowded teeth can get worse, resulting in severely crooked teeth. That can lead to plaque accumulation, cavities, and gum disease.

Once you decide to gain your new smile, we will begin your transformation process. During your initial consultation, we will discuss your unique needs and evaluate whether Invisalign is right for you.

We will use a scanner to get precise 3D images of your teeth; then we will map out your specific treatment plan, including the exact movements of your teeth, and the length of the treatment. You will also be able to preview your new smile.

Your custom-made aligners will be made of SmartTrack® material. You will need to wear them 20 to 22 hours daily to achieve the best results. As you use your aligners, your teeth will slowly shift into place. When your treatment is complete, you will need to wear a retainer to make sure your teeth do not gradually shift back to their initial position.
