ORAL SURGERY
Oral surgery is a dental specialty that focuses on the correction of dental health problems through surgical means. These are the most common types of oral surgery that we perform at Fortson Dentistry:
- Dental Implants: Dental implants are a permanent and non-removable method for replacing teeth lost to disease or trauma. Comfort, convenience, and improved oral health are just some of the benefits dental implants offer over dentures.
- Tooth extraction: You may need one or more teeth extracted due to trauma to the mouth, a failed root canal, as part of an orthodontic treatment plan, or because of severe decay. Although rare, some patients also need primary teeth extracted that never came out on their own.
- Jaw surgery: This is always a last resort for our oral surgeons. You may require jaw surgery due to severe TMJ, improper jaw position or bite, trauma to the mouth, or severe teeth grinding. Extreme difficulty with chewing, eating, or speaking is also a possibility.
If your dentist feels you need oral surgery, they will refer you to our oral surgeon on staff. You have the opportunity to meet with them prior to your surgery, so you know exactly what to expect. Call our Lathrup Village South office with any questions related to Oral Surgery.
