OVERDENTURES

We provide overdentures to help patients maintain their mouth’s structure, stability, and their smile.

OVERDENTURES vs. DENTURES

Dentures are dental appliances designed to replace some or all teeth in a dental arch. When an individual loses teeth, their jawbone reshapes itself and shrinks over time; therefore, dentures may not fit the same in their mouth over time. Overdentures are the appliance attached to the remaining teeth or dental implants in the mouth that stabilize what would otherwise distort the mouth’s shape. Overdentures allow the shape of the mouth to stay in a healthy space and allow the individual to avoid having their regular denture refitted from time to time. Just like regular dentures, overdentures are still removable, but they are made from acrylic and therefore are stronger appliances and allow for stronger bone health in the mouth.

CARING FOR OVERDENTURES

It is important to take the utmost care of your overdenture to maintain your oral hygiene. At night, remove your overdenture and clean around all of the attachments present inside the mouth. It is just as important to schedule regular dental cleanings with your overdenture as it would be without one.

HOW LONG DO OVERDENTURES LAST?

With proper care, overdentures can last forever and are meant to be a permanent solution. They should be treated as if they were your original teeth which means brushing, flossing, and regular dental checkups are still just as important. Taking good care of your overdenture will not only increase its lifespan but also help keep your mouth and smile in the best condition.
