ROOT CANAL THERAPY

Historically, root canals have gotten a bad rap, but the good news is that advances in dental technology have made it much less painful and "scary," with more than a 95% success rate.

When a tooth becomes infected or abscessed, severely decayed or injured, or a nerve is damaged, you may need a root canal. Symptoms of infection include:

  • Painful chewing
  • Heat/cold sensitivity
  • Tooth discoloration
  • Gum swelling, tenderness
  • Or no symptoms; only a dental exam will discover it

Left untreated, a root canal infection can cause swelling in the face or neck, tooth loss, and infection draining into the gums, cheek or skin. The only alternative to a root canal is having the tooth extracted and replaced with a bridge, implant, or partial denture – far more expensive and time-consuming than a root canal.

HOW MUCH DOES A ROOT CANAL COST WITHOUT INSURANCE?

If you’re concerned about the cost of a root canal with or without insurance, contact your nearest Fortson Dentistry office and they can give you a rate based on whether you have insurance, and which type of coverage your family has.

DO YOU DO ROOT CANALS FOR CHILDREN?

In some circumstances doing a root canal on a child is necessary for them to chew correctly, maintain the alignment of permanent teeth and assist in speech development.

ARE ROOT CANALS DONE UNDER SEDATION?

Root canals are typically done under one of three types of sedation:

  1. Minimal sedation, uses a mild sedative such as Nitrous Oxide to numb the patient.
  2. Moderate sedation is a deeper form of sedation that will still allow patients to respond to questions, though they are not asleep.
  3. Deep sedation will leave a patient unconscious, and is generally recommended for patients who are unable to tolerate dental treatment.

Fortson Dentistry can help you determine the best way to save your tooth and your smile.
